Passport to Sucess Project

Project
Problem Statement

IDEAL SITUATION

Portland district Army Corps of Engineers employees would know how to effectively complete the official passport application, have the official passport application completed and ready to be processed upon entering the passport agent’s office, and which items to bring to passport agent's office for appointment.

REALITY

Portland, Oregon District Army Corps of Engineer employees travel globally for official business. Employees must hold an OFFICIAL US passport rather than a tourist passport. The details about how to obtain an official passport are complex and confusing. New employees find it difficult to navigate the process and seasoned employees often forget certain steps.

CONSEQUENCE

Army Corps of Engineers government employees needing to travel on official business often have to re-book appointments due to incorrect or incomplete forms or not having travel orders in hand. This in turn sometimes delays travel for employees and places the mission of Army Corps of Engineers at risk or on hold.

PROPOSAL

It is proposed that the team develops an infographic and training materials to educate Portland Army Corps of Engineers employees on which passport is needed for official travel, how that application can be successfully completed in advance before being brought to the passport office for processing, what to bring to the appointment which would include travel orders, and how to effectively make appointments with the correct Army Corps of Engineers passport agent in advance of travel.

Project Goal

GOAL STATEMENT

US Army Corps of Engineers employees will effectively follow protocol on completing US Official passport applications reducing the number of incorrect passport applications and re-booked appointments.
